As a result of the massacre, the white settlers and Cayuse Indians developed tense relationships

- The local militia would chase the Cayuse Indians into the woods
- The army sent about five hundred and fifty soldiers to hunt the Cayuse
- The Cayuse would surrender the five responsible and they would be executed including the Cayuse chief Tikoukaikt
- The Cayuse would return to Walla Walla valley but the relationships between the whites and Cayuse were severely damaged by the war and the execution
